Whaikaha (Ministry of Disabled People) are reviewing the Disability Strategy, which has guided government action for the last 10 years.
The Disability Strategy is a plan that helps government make things better for disabled people in Aotearoa New Zealand. A new strategy is being developed for 2026–2030.
Whaikaha have released a draft strategy and are asking for feedback. Feedback can be given by making a submission or by going to an event.
We are holding a community meeting so disabled people and their whānau can:
Learn what the draft strategy is and why it matters
Share what’s important to you
Talk about what needs to be highlighted for Canterbury/Waitaha
Get support to make your own submission
This hui will be a relaxed community space, without officials present. It’s also a good chance to get ready for the official Whaikaha hui on Friday 19 September in Christchurch.
Any feedback shared at our meeting will be included in a group submission, which we’ll also present at the Whaikaha hui.
If you’d like to write your own submission, we can help at the event. Bring your own device, or use one of the two we’ll have available.
This event is hosted by the Waitaha EGL Regional Leadership Group, XXXXX.
