About the event

Nau mai, haere mai! Disability Leadership Canterbury (DLC), Disabled Persons Assembly (DPA), and the Waitaha Enabling Good Lives Regional Leadership Group (WRLG) are pleased to collaborate on this electoral forum. We warmly invite you, your whānau, carers and supporters to join us.
Our voices matter. Our votes count. As disabled people, we are one in five New Zealanders. Together, our votes have real power. This forum is a chance for us to talk with candidates, ask what they will do about the issues that matter to us, and get the answers we need to vote with confidence.
Doors open at 12 p.m. for light refreshments and networking. Connect with kindred spirits, catch up with our community, and enjoy a chat with the candidates before the formal kōrero begins.
Candidates will speak briefly about the key issues we have shared with them beforehand. These include disability support, the cost of living, housing, transport, employment, education, healthcare, safety, and our rights. We will also ask how they would involve us in decisions and be accountable to us.
Then it’s our turn. Let’s ask questions, share what matters to us and find out what candidates are prepared to do about it.
Whether you have a specific question or simply want to join the conversation, you are welcome.
When: Saturday 26 September 2026, 12 p.m.–3.30 p.m.
Where: BrainTree Wellness Centre, 70 Langdons Road, Papanui.
NZSL interpreters will be present. There is ample car parking, including accessible spaces.
Please RSVP to Ingrid at Kaituitui.Ootautahi@dpa.org.nz.
We look forward to connecting with you. Let’s make our voices and votes count!
